One thing I realized I haven't shared in my pitches, synopses, or query letters is something quite personal that has influenced the way I write. I was diagnosed with Level 1 autism and ADHD. I don't see them as labels that define me, but as part of the unique way I experience the world. My mind is almost always creating stories, characters, and new ideas.
I've always dreamed of becoming a writer. Growing up in a large family of seven siblings with sixteen nieces and nephews, I spent countless hours inventing adventures for them, and many of the books I write today were born during those special moments. That passion led me to study Literature and Languages, followed by three years in Theatre and Acting, experiences that deepened my understanding of storytelling, character development, and emotion.
My writing process always begins with the characters. Before I write a single page, I spend time building each character, shaping their personalities, dreams, fears, strengths, and emotions. Once they feel real to me, I simply let them tell me their story, which is why I rarely know exactly how a book will end before I begin writing it. The first draft often comes together in a single day because the story has already been living in my imagination, while the revision takes much longer as I carefully polish every sentence.
Every story carries a small piece of my own journey, inspired by places where I lived, places I traveled, and also places where I want to go. Because my mind is often off in its own imaginary world, I sometimes need someone to gently bring me back to earth. My husband has always been that anchor, encouraging my creativity and supporting my dream of becoming an author.
The values that have shaped my own life naturally find their way into my stories. Here are a few of the inspirations behind each of my books.
The Day the Sun Didn't Show UpI've always loved animals, especially farm animals, and I've always wanted to write a story where they could all come together. At the same time, I wanted to create a different kind of adventure, one where problems are solved through empathy instead of conflict. By working together and appreciating each other's strengths, the animals discover that it doesn't matter how different we are. If we truly care for one another and build friendships based on kindness, we can overcome any challenge together.
